About Lee Jamison Gallery
About Our Business
Lee Jamison Gallery is now a little over a year old.
Now for the rest of the story.
Lee Jamison has been a full-time professional artist since 1982. His interests
have driven him to expertise in a number of fields, ranging from landscape
painting in oils to murals indoors and out to Texas history, and even to political
commentary (He has been a columnist for the Huntsville, Texas Item, the second
oldest newspaper in the state.)
Art does not exist for its own sake. It exists to communicate ideas that are not fully
expressible in words. On top of that, artists seek to sculpt in the viewer an
emotional response. We want you to FEEL something. In film it doesn't matter
what the actor on the screen is feeling. What matters is what he causes you to
feel. The painter seeks to do the same thing. Like the actor on the one hand or
the politician on the other the visual artist wants to induce a particular emotional
response. His ultimate medium is emotion.
In the English language everyone uses the same 44 phonemes, the individual
sounds in the language. These are the basics of the language whether you wish
to be a poet or a policeman. In visual expression there are basics as well.
Everybody should learn how to draw just as everybody should learn how to
read and write. We try to teach a capacity to express one's self in images.
You should not be any more discouraged from learning art basics by the fact that
you probably won't be a famous artist than you should be discouraged from
learning to write by the fact you probably won't be a famous novelist.
Lee Jamison Gallery is located at 1603 14th street. We are about six blocks from
Huntsville's historic downtown and the trompe l'oeil murals of Richard Haas.
