Backdrops by Lee

Peter Frampton
Concert Drop

Sometimes really great opportunities
come along.  This 24 foot by 40 foot
concert drop is one of those
opportunities. Done almost entirely in
drybrush, it is intended to frame the
band in the environment one sees on
Frampton's most recent album cover.
Concert drop for Peter Frampton
I first did backdrops for theatrical productions as a student at Houston's Bellaire High School. That was, well, a long time ago.
These drops have myriad uses.  They can be created for actual theatrical use, used as a setting for parties and other special events,
and used as light, easily portable signage by companies that have frequent special events or often participate in trade shows.
"Circus Interior"
With a kind of wacky,
cartoonish look, this 18 foot by
42 foot drop wound up with a
crowd more interesting than
anyone who could have
performed here.

"Bali Hai"
This was actually envisioned as a
backdrop for the Rodgers and
Hammerstein musical "South
Pacific".  Though It has never been
used in that way the point is that as
a successful event drop it was
designed to provide an effective
setting for any kind of event.

"Chuck Berry"
This drop gave me a chance to show off my drybrush
skills.  At a time when big printers can literally print
full-sized drops the difference between the printers and
the painters is in the character of the paint itself.   My
drops are huge, hand-painted watercolors, not
machine-made artifacts.

"Oilfield at Night"
Our favorite drop, this was produced
for Texaco's 100th  anniversary
celebration in Houston in August of
2001.
